Mary Queen of Scots was a Scottish queen who reigned from 1542 to 1567. She was the daughter of King James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise, and was a great-niece of King Henry VIII of England. She is best known for her turbulent reign, during which she was involved in several wars and political intrigues, and ultimately was forced to abdicate the throne in favor of her son, James VI. Her execution in 1587 at the hands of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England, was a major event in British history.
